Expert advice >> What is The E-Myth?

You've probably heard the term bandied about in business magazines and in management meetings. You may have even read about it in other business books. But unless you've read the book itself, you probably aren't sure what "The E-Myth" is really about.

Described in detail by Michael Gerber in his ground-breaking book of the same name, The E-Myth is the term used to describe "the myth of the entrepreneur". The book further contends that the majority of small business owners are not started by entrepreneurs, but by people briefly intoxicated with the dream of being an entrepreneur who suffer "entrepreneurial seizures". By the time these people wake up to the reality of running a business, they are often slipping farther from their dreams of financial independence.

One of the most interesting arguments presented in The E-Myth is that every person in business is actually composed of three distinct personalities: the Entrepreneur, the Manager, and the Technician. These personalities each have different needs and interests, and without proper management, the conflict between these personalities will distract you from your primary goal as a business owner: making your business a success.

Whether you agree or disagree with Gerber's arguments, The E-Myth is a powerful book that will expand your understanding of what it means to be more than an entrepreneur by trade, and offer insights about how you can move beyond the myth to become a truly successful business owner.
